StoryMom is built by a parent, for bedtime. The design rule behind everything below: hold as little about a child as possible, show it to no one, and let you erase it in one tap.
Three things, all typed in by you: a first name or nickname (a nickname is genuinely fine — the site works identically), an age range like 5–7, and a preferred language. Plus reading activity — which stories were opened, quiz answers, points — so the dashboard and streaks work. That is the whole list.
Date of birth, school, photos, phone number, precise location, and free-text input from children. There is no chat, no comments, no way for a child to type something we would then store.
Only your own family, signed into your own account. Profiles are private by default — nothing about your child appears on leaderboards or public pages unless you switch that on yourself in Settings. Features that touch other families (like inviting a friend) never carry your child's name across.
No ads, anywhere, ever — and children's information is never used for advertising. We run one analytics tool (Google Analytics) to see which stories are loved and which pages are slow, configured with Google’s advertising features switched off. If you read without signing in, a cookie holds a random ID so we can count reading devices — it is not a fingerprint and never leaves our systems.
No. AI narrates and translates the stories — the books themselves. Your child’s profile and reading history are never sent to an AI model.
Yes, yourself, in about ten seconds: Settings → Delete account. It immediately and permanently removes every child profile, all reading history, points, saved stories, and any feedback you sent us, and closes the login. No email to write, no waiting period, nothing retained.
With our infrastructure providers — Supabase (database and sign-in), Vercel (hosting), Resend (sign-in emails), and Google (analytics and story narration). They process data only to run StoryMom; nobody buys, rents, or receives your family’s information. The database is locked so that only our own servers can read it — a browser, even with the site’s public keys, cannot.
Not from data and not from ads. Every story in every language is free, permanently. If StoryMom ever charges for anything, it will be for conveniences around the stories — never for the stories, and never by selling attention or information.
