Privacy Policy

StoryMom (“StoryMom,” “we,” “us”) operates the website at mystorymom.com (the “Service”), where parents and guardians can read illustrated, narrated bedtime stories with their children. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

StoryMom is intended to be set up and used by adults (parents and guardians) on behalf of the children in their care. We do not knowingly allow children to create their own accounts.

1. Information we collect

• Account information. When you sign in, we collect your email address so we can identify your account — either directly (for a one-time sign-in link) or from Google if you choose “Continue with Google.” We never see or store your Google password.
• Child profile you provide. To personalize stories, you may tell us a child’s first name (or a nickname), age range, and preferred language. You choose what to enter — a nickname is fine, and we ask only for an age range, not a date of birth.
• Reading & learning activity. We record which stories are opened, time spent reading, saved stories, star ratings, vocabulary words unlocked, quiz results, and the “Spark Points” earned, so we can show your dashboard and progress.
• Family voice recordings. If someone in your family records a story in their own voice, we store that recording privately for your family alone, delivered only through expiring signed links. We never share it, never use it to train or clone anything, and it is deleted only when you delete it — family voices are kept for as long as you want them.
• Technical data. Standard information your browser sends, such as device type, general location (from IP address), and pages visited, collected through cookies and analytics (see Section 5). If you read without signing in, we set a cookie called sm_d containing a random identifier — not a fingerprint — so we can count how many devices are reading. It is never shared with advertisers or used to build a profile of you.

2. How we use information

• To provide the Service — signing you in, showing stories, and saving progress.
• To personalize content by age range and language.
• To power the dashboard, badges, and Spark Points features.
• To operate, secure, debug, and improve the Service.
• To communicate with you about your account or the Service.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use children’s information to serve behavioral advertising to children.

3. Children’s privacy

StoryMom is directed at families, so we treat every profile as if it belongs to a child and design the Service to hold as little information about children as possible:

• An adult creates the account. Sign-up asks the adult to confirm they are the child’s parent or guardian. We suggest using a nickname rather than a real name, and we ask only for an age range — never a date of birth, school, or photo.
• Profiles are private by default. A child’s name and reading activity are visible only inside your own family’s account unless you explicitly opt in to community features from Settings.
• No advertising to children. We show no ads, we do not use children’s information for behavioral advertising anywhere, and our analytics run with Google’s advertising features switched off (see Section 5).
• Nothing is shared across families. Notifications and referral features never reveal one child’s name to another family.

If you believe a child has provided us information without a parent or guardian’s involvement, contact us at hello@mystorymom.com and we will delete it promptly.

4. How we share information

We share information only with service providers who help us run StoryMom, including:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage.
• Vercel — website hosting.
• Resend — sending sign-in emails.
• Google — analytics, and AI text-to-speech and translation used to narrate and translate stories.

These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms. We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the Service.

5. Cookies & analytics

We use cookies that are necessary to keep you signed in, plus the sm_d counting cookie described in Section 1. We use Google Analytics to understand how the Service is used so we can improve it, configured with Google’s advertising features (Google Signals and ad personalization) switched off, so analytics data is not used to advertise to you or your child. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling necessary cookies may prevent you from staying signed in.

Affiliate links. Some pages may include affiliate links to third-party retailers (for example, books or toys we recommend to parents). These recommendations are intended for parents, not children. If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you, and the retailer may set its own cookies on your device. We only link to products we genuinely believe fit our stories.

6. Data retention

We keep account and activity information only for as long as your account is active — we do not keep children’s information longer than is needed to run the Service. You can delete your account yourself at any time from Settings: this immediately and permanently removes every child profile, reading history, points, saved stories, and any feedback you have sent us, and closes the login so the email cannot sign back in. You can also ask us to delete everything by emailing hello@mystorymom.com. Backups age out on a rolling basis shortly afterward.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your choices & rights

Depending on where you live (for example under COPPA in the United States, GDPR in the EU/UK, or the Digital Personal Data Protection Act in India), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. You can review and edit profile details, and delete the whole account, directly from Settings; for anything else, contact us at hello@mystorymom.com and we will respond as the parent or guardian of record.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you.
