Why Don’t They Sprout?

Sone planted a bean seed many days ago, but it has not sprouted. He asks his sister, Noud, about it.

Noud answers, "I’m not sure. Let’s go ask Grandpa."

"Grandpa! I sowed this bean seed many days ago, but I don’t know why it is not sprouting."

Grandpa answers, "Plants need soil, water, fertilizer, and sunlight."

Sone and Noud try to sow the bean seeds again.

Sone sows the bean seed under a tree where there is shade, while Noud sows the bean seed where there is sunlight.

One week later, Noud’s bean seed sprouts very nicely and thickly.

Sone is curious, so he asks his grandpa, "Grandpa, why doesn't my bean seed sprout?"

"Oh! Plants need soil, water, fertilizer, and enough sunlight for them to sprout and grow," Grandpa replies.

Sone shouts, "Oh, now I understand! My bean seed didn’t sprout because it didn’t get sunlight."
