The air grew crisp, and the young squirrel knew winter was near. It was time to find a safe, secret place for its precious nut hoard. It scurried up the tallest oak, eyeing a perfect hollow.

"Cheep! Cheep!" chirped a family of sparrows, already nestled deep inside the next promising nook. The squirrel sighed, clutching its acorn a little tighter, and scampered off.

A deep growl rumbled from a hollow near the ground, where a grumpy badger was settling in for its long winter nap. "Hmph!" grumbled the badger, blocking the entrance with its broad back.

Discouraged, the young squirrel sat on an old, mossy tree stump, its tail drooping. All the good spots were taken! But then, its bright eyes noticed a tiny, almost invisible crack near the base of the stump.

With a hopeful twitch of its nose, the squirrel pushed an acorn into the crack. PLONK! It fell deep inside! The old stump wasn't solid at all; it was hollow and empty within, a perfect, hidden pantry!

All autumn long, the young squirrel tirelessly gathered its nuts, carefully tucking each one into its secret stump. It was the coziest, safest winter home for its precious hoard, discovered by a clever, hopeful heart.
Even when things seem impossible, a little cleverness and persistence can help you find your own unique solution.
What was the young squirrel's main problem?
